In the 1930s, the predecessor to the US Air Force was testing lighter-than-air technology for military use. They built an airship called the USS Akron, and, for its maiden voyage, flew it down the eastern seaboard and then across the country to the west coast. Because there was no commercial air traffic at the time, the flight was not publicly announced. This is a song about an untrustworthy man who sees something unbelievable.
